Retreats are a beautiful opportunity to step away from your day-to-day life and spend time growing in your relationship with God.
Here at Dowry House in the heart of Walsingham, we offer a wide range of different retreats suited to many different needs. Please see the drop-down menu for a list of what we have to offer, or our events page for upcoming themed retreats.
A Word from the Rector:
On a wall in Elmham House, there’s a framed poem of Lord Monckton, who, in 1940, wrote these words about Walsingham in Flanders:
“I know a place
where time stands still
at home in England now;
where all the ages rolled in one
look down in peace and quiet.
Where English fields
and English trees
are mingled with a stream,
a changeless pattern for
Our Lady’s English home…”
As well as a place of busy-ness, with much activity and – thankfully- many pilgrims, the national shrine of Our Lady tries also to provide and oasis in the desert, a place of peace and quiet to sooth the soul, to help us be still and know the presence of God and the serene joy of Our Blessed Lady.
Dowry House, the Walsingham shrine retreat house, was established to offer a comfortable and quiet space for recollection. It’s on the village High Street, near the Abbey grounds, where stood originally the Holy House. The Sisters of the Community of Our Lady of Walsingham offer a variety of retreats for groups and individuals and together we look forward to welcoming you.
